For twoyears, the author has beenvisiting the over 80 years old Iľka in the secluded mountain village Šumiac in central ia,trying to learn how to sew a bonnet, an important part of the traditional women's clothing of the region. The compelling combination of literary reportage and documentary novel uncovers the unromanticized relationship between the past and the present andbetween personal identity and ethno-cultural stereotypes, as well as the complicated relationship the population's majority has to the Roma minority.
