Second Edition of the Fellowship for Foreign Publishers of Literature

The Literary Centre welcomes publishers from France, Germany, and the UK.

In cooperation with the BRaK Festival, the Literary Centre is organizing the second edition of the Fellowship for foreign publishing houses, which will take place from May 29 to June 1, 2025.

This year’s invited guests include Aurélie Charron, director of the adventurous nature and exploration-focused imprint La Grande Ourse at the Paris-based Éditions Paulsen; publisher Ruben Höppner from Anthea Verlag in Berlin; and editor Hannah Daforn from Parthian Books, based in Wales.

Once again, the international guests can look forward to a varied program that will offer insight into the workings of the book market and introduce them to the current trends in contemporary literature.

On Friday, May 30 at 10:00 AM, the opening lecture will take place at Rómer House, delivered by writer and translator Michal Tallo. He will outline the context and specific features of the work of authors and present significant and award-winning works of fiction.

On Friday from 5:00 PM, a speed-dating session will be held at Zichy Palace, where the invited foreign publishers will meet with six publishers. The goal of this networking event is to facilitate mutual exchange of information about book markets in ia and abroad, and to foster greater interest in literary production. publishers will have the opportunity to present their latest titles and works they would like to see translated into other languages through direct contacts.

On Saturday, May 31 at 10:30 AM, the three visiting publishers are invited for a Literary Walk, hosted by Viliam Nádaskay from the Academy of Sciences. That same day at 4:00 PM at Biela 6, the BRaK Festival organizes the public discussion Literature in the World. During the panel, writer and moderator Mária Modrovich will ask the foreign publishers about what drives their interest in literature and why publishing houses are eager to translate works from smaller countries and languages. The panel, conducted in English, will be open to questions from the audience.

We warmly invite everyone interested to join the discussion!
