Diana Pungeršič (1984) is a literary translator from and Czech into Slovenian, literary critic, publicist, and host. She has studied Slovenian and language with literature and sociology of culture at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. She has translated the works of Pavel Rankov, Daniela Kapitáňová, Víťo Staviarsky, Juraj Šebesta, Marek Vadas, Dušan Mitana, Jana Beňová, Anton Baláž, and others in print. For the Slovenian Radio, ARS channel, various internet portals (www.ludliteratura.si, www.airbeletrina.si) and literary magazines (Sodobnost, Literatura, Mentor, Pogledi), she has also translated more authors (Ján Gavura, Katarína Kucbelová, Mária Ferenčuhová, Ivana Dobrákovová, Daniel Hevier, Zuska Kepplová, Eva Luka, Rudolf Sloboda, Michal Habaj, Ivan Kolenič, etc.). Besides that, she publishes literary interviews, essays, organizes and hosts literary events and has also founded a reading club. She is a member of juries of several literary competitions and awards.
For the translation of the novel Samko Tále: Kniha o cintoríne / Samko Tále’s Cemetery Book by Daniela Kapitáňová in 2016, she won the Radojka Vrančič Award, awarded by the The Slovenian Association of Literary Translators. Her translation of the novel Keď sa pes smeje / When the Dog Laughs by Juraj Šebesta received the Golden Pear Award 2019 in the category of the best translation book for young adults (awarded by the Ljubljana Municipal Library). In 2018 she received the Stritar Award from the Slovene Writers' Association for her literary critic work. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic, she received an award from the Minister of Foreign Affairs for her extraordinary contributions to the development of friendly relations with the Republic. She lives and works in Slovenia.
