ádzԾ' secondbook, published in1965.
The Essence of theQuarry is the author's most experimental work. One layer of the book continues to solve the inner conflict between the world of an individual with his true face and the world of others withits pressure to adapt tosurroundings, norms and conventions, as Johanides had started to do in Privacy. In this text, however, he not only delves into human subjectivity and into the disintegration processes of the human self, he also disrutps the literary text.
