Marián Andričík is the son of poet, translator and radio editor Juraj Andričík, literary scholar and translator. He is also a university lecturer and vice-dean for scientific research and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Arts of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. He studied and English at the Faculty of Arts of the Comenius University in Bratislava. He also completed an internship in the USA at The American University in Washington. After his studies he worked as an editor of the literary magazine Dotyky.
His dissertation thesis was called "On the generic problems of translation" (2003), in 2008 he was habilitated as an associate professor, and in September 2018 he was appointed a professor by the then President of the Republic Andrej Kiska. From 1996 to 2007 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Prešov. In his work, he is mainly engaged in the translation of prose and poetry, mostly from English and American literature (S. King, B. Childish, J. Grisham, J. Keats, T. Hughes, A. C. Doyle, J. Trollope and others). He also translates plays, radio plays, essays and scholarly literature. He made his debut with the collection of reflective poetry Skúška správnosti (1989) and compiled the anthology of beatnik poetry Naked Angel... or Aloud (1995). He contributed a study of translations of Poe's The Raven into to the anthology Symbolism in Contexts and Contexts (1999). He is the author of Towards a Poetics of Artistic Translation (2004) and in 2010 he compiled and translated the anthology Beatniks.
In 1993 he received the Literary Fund Prize for the translation of a selection of John Keats' poetry, in 1996 for an anthology of Beatnik poetry, in 2005 for a selection of William Blake's poetry, in 2006 for the English- and -English Dictionary, and the Crystal Wing Award for 2020 in the category of Journalism and Literature for the first ever translation of one of the most important works of world literature, John Milton's biblical epic Paradise Lost.
He currently lives and works in Košice.
