Curriculum vitae

Charles Sabatos is a professor at the Department of English Language and Literature at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, where he researches and lectures on Central European, American and world literature, and where he was previously head of the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies.
His monographFrontier Orientalism and The Turkish Image in Central European Literature, for which he received a Fulbright fellowship at Comenius University and a research grant from the National Scholarship Program at the Institute of World Literature/SAS, was published in 2020 (it also appeared in Turkish in 2014). He has published articles on , Czech, and world literature in numerous academic journals and is co-editor with Katarina Gephardt and Ivana Taranenková of the forthcoming collectionHome and the World in Writing: A Small Nation's Literature in Context. His translations from includeEver Green is…(Večne je zelený...) by Pavel Vilikovský,Four Elves and the Fairy(Štyria škriatkovia a víla) by Ján Uličiansky, andGod’s Atoms(Atómy Boha) by Gejza Vámoš (the last of which was supported by the Trojica AIR residency program). He has also translated texts by Dominik Tatarka, Peter Karpinský and Svetlana Žuchová.
