Michał Wirchniański (1985) comes from a small village in the Low Beskids Mountains, where thanks to the proximity of the state border, he watched ձčíč (a television program for children) every day as a child. Perhaps it inspired him so much, that he later decided to pursue studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He graduated in 2009 and has been translating and interpreting for a living ever since. Besides, he lived and worked in Košice together for almost four years. For ten years he has been translating into Polish the subtitles of films for the film show Kino na hranici (Cinema on the border) in Cieszyn/Český Těšín; so far he has translated dozens of them. Since 2020, he has been working as a freelance official interpreter and translator and at the same time he has also started to translate literary texts. He has translated the debut of Juraj Kováčik V panoramatickom kine / In the panoramic cinema. At first, the title story was published in the web edition of the quarterly magazine ʰó; later the whole collection was published in a book. He also translated the short stories Warholove nohy / Warhol’s legs by Michal Hvorecký and Mora / Moth by Richard Pupala, published by the literary quarterly magazine Wyspa. He lives with his wife in Krakow.
