Curriculum vitae

Norbert György has studied Hungarian language, literature and esthetics at the University in Nitra. As a writer, he debuted with the noveláwhich came out in the Hungarian publishing house NAP and which in 2005 received an honorary mention ofthe Imre Madách Prize. His next book, the short-stories collectionÁtmeneti állapot(Prechodný stav), was publishedin 2011 by Kalligram. It received anotherhonorary mention of the Imre Madách Prize (2012) and it also won the Alfonz Talamon Prize for the best fictional book of the year. He began to translate literature when he was commissioned by the Hungarian magazine Lettre Internationale to translate works by prominent prose writers, e.g. Balla, Víťo Staviarsky, Ivana Dobrakovová, Michal Havran, as well as poets, e.g. Mila Haugová, Katarína Kucbelová, Michal Habaj, Vlado Janček. He had published three translations --Víťo Staviarsky:Fekete cipők, fehér fűzővel(Kale topanky, Noran Libro, 2016); Jaroslav Rumpli:ҲDzԲöö(Kruhy v obilí, Typotex, 2016); Ivana Dobrakovová:Toxo(Noran Libro, 2017). He is currently working on the Hungarian version of the short-stories collection by Ivana Dobrakovová: Matky a kamionisti, to be published this year by Typotex. He had received the grant and the residency for translators of literature into foreign languages TROJICA AIR in Banská Štiavnica (artist in residence).
