The House of Hungarian Translators inÌýBalatonfüred was opened in January 1998. The House is 125 kilometers away from Budapest on the Northern shore of the Lake Balaton. It is housed in a 19th century villa and is owned by the Foundation of the House of Hungarian Translators. It offers space for six translators at the same time. On site, residents can find a specialized library of Hungarian and foreign dictionaries as well as a selection of literary works and magazines. The translators can also use text processors, a printer, a copy machine, a telephone and a fax machine.Ìý
The House welcomes all translators of Hungarian literature. Translators can contact the FoundationÌýthroughout the year to apply for a grant. Applicants should present a project with the name of the book they wish to translate, a CV, a list of translated books and if possible, also a translation contract or a statement from the publisher. Applications are considered by the Foundation's board and replied to within a month.Ìý
The length of the stay (2-4-6-8 weeks) should correspond with the volumeÌýof the translated work.Ìý
The grant offers 120.000 Hungarian Forints monthly to cover expenses during the residency. The meals are responsibility of the residents, there are, however,Ìýcooking amenities available at the house.Ìý
